Set up for success

Ta-Da! Welcome to GudeGirlsEats.com! I’m so excited to finally have a single resource for all my videos, travel guides, recipes and musings! The last few months of building, reading, researching have been gratifying, interesting and, at times, overwhelming. The number of times that I have coached myself “You can do this” in the last 3 months has GREATLY increased and the number of times that I’ve had to PARENT myself with a “Turn Netflix off and do your homework” has happened, well honestly, it happens almost every day! Thankfully, the fear of not making the most out of my time on earth outweighs the fear of making a fool of myself (I have loads more practice in that!) and so, as promised, here we are.

My birthday is in July and, coupled with new year’s, about every six months I take the opportunity to check in with myself to see if things are headed in the right direction.

  • Am I happy?
  • Am I proud of myself?
  • Is this the life I want to live and, if not, what do I need to do to get there?

This past July it was obvious to me that it was time to shake things up! I had just come home from two weeks tour in the U.S. to visit friends and family. On paper, all was spectacular! I was living in London, the world’s capital, with my newly-wed Husband and had a “dream job” heading up the London team of a global digital marketing agency.  During that trip, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was living someone else’s life. I wanted to break off a piece of the world for myself and keep it simple: Create great food, connect with people and share my experiences so that other people can see the world as I do. This may sound self- centered, but I certainly hope that it isn’t. Traveling or, more accurately, exploring as always been a passion of mine from when I was young. My Mom who loves to tell the story of how I, at 6 years old, wouldn’t get off the bus at the END of girl scout camp. I loved the learning, exploring and camaraderie so much and that hasn’t changed. As I’ve have travelled as an adult, I’ve learn so much about myself and the world around me. Traveling has given me clarity, confidence and comfort as I’ve learned that people have significantly more in common then they may think. I hope to share my experiences in the hopes that it may open the borders of the mind and heart. But more on that later!

My 2017 resolution was to “Do things differently” and, boy, did I do that! Lots of reflection, lots of reading and then lots of action. 2018 is all about:

  1. Trying new things
  2. Having more “play” in my life
  3. Being committed to the cause and enjoy the journey (harder than it sounds!)

I’ve so excited to share everything that I’ve learned over the last 40 years of exploring, learning, and connecting with people. So, repeat after me:

Enjoy the journey!
